Rifles manufactured after these serial numbers are referred to as 'high numbered' receivers and are commonly stated to be safe to shoot. It consists of a post WWII National Ordnance receiver and mostly surplus USGI parts. The change in heat treating was instituted between serial number 750,00 and 800,000 at Springfield and by serial number 285,506 at Rock Island Arsenal. Wish I could be more help, but that's all I got. Our Assessment: This National Ordinance Model 1903A3 was made between 19. M1 carbine (garbage) but I have seen 2 M1903s with the same N.O. somehow connected with Bannerman and weapons were sold to 3rd world countries.Īt some point I read or heard that N.O. Yeah, It's a whopper of a story, but one that's been around a long time.Īnother story had N.O. One even went so far as stating that M1903s/A3s, M1 Carbines, M1 Garands and other weapons with National Ordnance markings were used for the Bay of Pigs so the weapons would not be directly connected to the US military. There have been a lot of stories regarding National Ordnance. I honestly don't remember if GI parts were used or mix of GI and commercial.

In fact, that carbine turned me off to M1 Carbines all together. I guess whats missing is a 1903 Springfield. 45-70 Trapdoor, an 1896 Krag carbine, an 1898 Krag rifle, then I have a 1917 Winchester. I knew it wasn't a Plainfield so took the chance.I could not get it to be reliable. I realized that I have an unplanned military firearms timeline going. I was uneducated on carbines back then and thought it was USGI.
